At Saggas we receive natural gas in liquid state (LNG) in LNG tankers from the liquefaction plants. These ships dock at the Saggas installation dock and unload by means of 3 specific arms for cryogenic liquids, with a fourth arm for the return of gas to the vessel.
The process conditions allow the LNG to be unloaded at a maximum flow rate of 12.000 m3/h. The current dock design allows us to accommodate ships of different sizes, from 20.000 m3 capacity to 265.000 m3 (Q-Max).
LNG unloaded from the tankers is stored in tanks at the plant. At Saggas we have four full containment tanks with a unit storage capacity of 150,000 m3.
The regasification process is carried out in the vaporisers. The plant has two types of vaporisers: 5 seawater, with a capacity of 200.000 Nm3/h each, and 1 submerged combustion, with a capacity of 150.000 Nm3/h.
After passing through an odorisation and measurement station, the natural gas produced in the vaporisers is placed into the Basic Network of Gas Pipelines.
The plant has a total capacity for loading 35 LNG road tankers per day, and this is used continuously 24 hours a day.
Since March 2013, it has been possible to reload LNG in methane tankers, at a maximum flow of 3.000 m3/h.
In January 2020, Saggas carried out its first small scale operation aimed at smaller vessels that supply this fuel to other vessels or to smaller LNG plants. Saggas has adapted its dock to manage LNG loads for a ships with a capacity of less than 6,500 m3.
