In line with our environmental commitment, as part of the 2021-2026 Strategic Carbon Plan, Saggas has promoted three projects to offset the carbon footprint of our plant. These projects, which are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), not only represent an environmental improvement for the surroundings, but also have a significant economic and social impact. Together, the three projects have promoted the creation of 26 jobs, of which 13 are aimed at vulnerable individuals.
Reforestation project of 2.27 hectares of Public Utility Forest in the town of Ejulve, which was affected by a fire in 2009. This project, which has a total forecast absorption of 501 tCO2e over a 50-year permanence period, includes the planting of 1,362 native trees, such as conifers and broadleaf species.
So far, at Saggas we have used the 91 tCO2e of available absorption at the start of the project to offset 0.09% of the 2021 carbon footprint from scopes 1, 2, and 3.
Reforestation project of 2.21 hectares of land affected by a forest fire in Loureza. This project, which has a 45-year permanence period with a total forecast absorption of 1,099 tCO2e, includes the planting of 2,340 trees of the Pinus pinaster species.
At Saggas, we used 66 tCO2e of available absorption at the start of the project to offset 42.04% of our 2022 carbon footprint from scopes 1 and 2.
Reforestation project of 16.9 hectares in Ibias, which will enable a total absorption of 710 tCO2e over its 45-year permanence period. The project includes reforesting the area through the planting of a birch forest, Betula celtibérica, a native species.
At Saggas, we have used this project to offset, in an initial phase, 129 tCO2e, corresponding to the tons of absorption available at the start of the project. This represents 0.07% of our 2023 carbon footprint from scopes 1, 2, and 3.
