22 Jul Saggas avoided the emission of around 59,000 tons of CO2e in 2019
Since the compressor launch in 2018, the plant has avoided the emission of more than 220,000 tons of CO2e.
The Sagunto regasification plant avoided the emission of around 58,724 tons of CO2e in 2019. The investments in environmental improvements carried out by Saggas have allowed an increase in the energy efficiency of the plant with the consequent energy savings and the associated reduction of emissions.
Specifically, in 2019 the plant invested 550,000 euros in compressor improvements, the completion of a nitrogen self-generation plant and the installation of a variable speed drive in primary pumps. Since the compressor launch, which involved an investment of 11 million euros in 2018, Saggas has avoided the emission of more than 220,000 tons of CO2e.
Likewise, in 2019 a new process of voluntary emissions compensation was started, submitting the choice of projects to the consideration of Saggas employees. The credits from these projects will make it possible to offset greenhouse gas emissions from air conditioning refrigerant leaks, machine combustion, and commuting and business trips corresponding to the years 2018 and 2019.
In line with its commitment to the environment, last year Saggas joined the No plastic campaign, promoted by the Ecoport II project of the Valencia Port Authority, to fight against the use of plastic packaging. Particularly, Saggas has made a commitment to reducing by 50% the amount of plastic bottles and cups consumed at the plant by 50%.
Commitment to the environment
During the 2019 financial year, Saggas has collaborated with 38 initiatives in the area of Sagunto and the Camp de Morvedre region. In the context of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, the plant focuses its collaborations on five areas: dynamization of the environment, social action, culture, sports and natural environment.
Specifically, in 2019, Saggas has collaborated with relevant cultural initiatives for Sagunto such as the Sagunt a Escena festival, the Classical Culture Workshops, Passió per Sagunt or the Bancaja Foundation; it has signed an agreement with the Generalitat Valenciana through the CEACV to repair part of the infrastructure damaged in the fire that ravaged the Marjal dels Moros natural park; has participated in the ASECAM Forum on Environmental Sustainability; it has supported sporting events such as the Half Marathon or the 30K Ciutat de Sagunt and has maintained its collaboration with the Center Solidari d’Aliments de Sagunt and with PayaSOSpital, which has twice visited the hospital in the area, among other initiatives.
