Saggas’ methane emission reduction plan receives “Gold Standard” distinction for the third consecutive year

The United Nations, through its UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), has awarded the “Gold Standard” distinction to Saggas’ methane emission reduction plan for the third consecutive year.

This distinction certifies that the actions outlined in the plan proposed by Saggas within the framework of the OGMP 2.0 project are solid and align with the proposed objective: to reduce its methane emissions by 45% by 2025 compared to 2015 levels. The recognition is part of the third report from the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), which was presented during COP28.

In 2020, Saggas was one of the first 62 companies worldwide to voluntarily join the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), an initiative promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and part of the European Commission’s Strategy to reduce methane emissions. By improving data reporting, OGMP 2.0 aims to reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2025 and between 60% and 75% by 2030.

Carbon Footprint Registration

Additionally, Saggas has recorded its carbon footprint for ten consecutive years (2013-2022) with the Spanish Office for Climate Change, achieving the “Calculate and Reduce” seal in 2022, and is currently in the process of obtaining compensation.
