28 Feb Saggas unloaded 16.6% of the LNG Entered into the Spanish gas system in 2023

The plant has received LNG from 14 different countries.

The regasification plant in Sagunto produced a total of 46,753 GWh in 2023, 16.6% less than the previous year, aligning with the records obtained in the Spanish gas system. This decrease comes after a strong 2022, where production doubled compared to the previous year due to the situation in the international energy market. Despite this decrease, 2023 represents the second-best performance of the last ten years. In total, Saggas received 2.97 million tons, which accounts for 16.6% of the total LNG unloaded in the Spanish gas system, and regasified and injected a total of 36,523 GWh into the pipeline.

In 2023, the plant unloaded 56 ships (two fewer than the previous year) from 14 different countries. Nigeria, with 31.1% of the total LNG unloaded; the United States, with 22.6%; and Algeria, with 17.4%, were the three countries that unloaded the most liquefied natural gas at Saggas. Other countries of origin for the LNG carriers included Angola, Australia, Belgium, Cameroon, Egypt, Spain, France, Equatorial Guinea, Oman, Russia, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Additionally, the plant loaded 540,501 tons of LNG, equivalent to 8,252 GWh of energy, onto 19 LNG carriers and loaded 6,963 tanker trucks, totaling more than 129,000 tons.

Furthermore, in 2023, Saggas completed the adaptation of its jetty to accommodate LNG loads onto small ships, enabling them to supply this type of fuel to other vessels. This project is part of the ‘LNGHIVE2: Infrastructure and Logistics Solutions’ program and has been co-financed by the European transport aid program Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
